Fundamentals of Teaching Sustainability
Did you know that the UN has adopted 17 global sustainability goals, which are now included in curricula in almost all EU countries?
In this seminar, we offer student teachers of all disciplines the opportunity to prepare for the challenges of future education. Students from universities in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland will deal with sustainability topics like educational equality, nutrition, consumption, health, and climate. With the creation of didactic concepts, we will develop the skills for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and lay the foundation for future interdisciplinary teaching in this area.
Students of the TU Dresden can take the seminar in the supplementary area. Registration is possible via the link below.
Students training to become secondary school teachers from all subjects at TU Dresden (Germany), Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), and Lower Silesian University in Wrocław (Poland) work under the guidance of internationally experienced experts in the ESD field.
We are looking for students with a good command of English, both written and oral.
Once again, the seminar will be held online this semester. We are aiming to offer face-to-face sessions in the future, but due to the ongoing situation and regulations, we are still forced to offer a digital version.
The seminar will take place during the winter semester of 2022/23 between October 6 and December 11. The scheduled workshop dates are:
- Oct. 06–09, 2022
- Nov. 18–20, 2022
- Dec. 10–11, 2022
The seminar will be divided into three meetings. Participants will work on their projects in trilateral groups in between.
- We will begin with a kick-off meeting from October 6th–9th, where participants get to know each other and – together with experts from the ESD area – lay the ground for their future work.
- A Didactics of ESD workshop will follow on November 18th–20th.
- The final workshop will take place December 10th–11th, during which the groups will present their results.
Registration takes place via an external form under this link. We will send you further information by e-mail as soon as possible.
The course is offered to teacher students of the TU Dresden as part of the Supplementary Studies (‘Ergänzungsstudien‘) on the modules EGS-SEMS-1, EGS-SEGY-1, EGS-SEBS-1 and EGS-SEBS-3 for five credit points.
There are ten places in the seminar per country (Germany, Poland, Czech Republic). We keep a waiting list for anyone interested.

Despite all political efforts to embed sustainability in curricula and teacher training, there is still much to be done to develop the practical knowledge of teachers and student teachers. We, therefore, want to promote specialist expertise on this interdisciplinary topic among the students and get to know and develop practical teaching aids and methods together.
