Gesellschaft im Dialog 2022
As part of TU Dresden im Dialog - Transfer activities in the framework of the Excellence Strategy of TU Dresden.

GiD 2022
After two successful years, we will continue our event series "Gesellschaft im Dialog" (Society in Dialogue) in 2022.
"Gesellschaft im Dialog" is a project of the TU Dresden in which various civil society cooperation partners and scientists engage in dialogue with a broad Saxon public on a scientific basis on topics of migration, integration, but also on issues of discrimination and racism. In various formats, such as discussion cafés, art workshops, readings, panel discussions and exhibitions, new perspectives on topics of the migration society are jointly developed and discussed against the background of current research findings and practical experiences. Practical experiences play an equal role alongside current findings from research and science. Thematically, the focus this year will be on "Disruption, Belongings and Democratic Participation", whereby the transformation experiences of the years 1989/90 in Germany in particular, but also processes of change beyond that, will be considered and discussed.

CEREMONIAL OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION
Stimmen des Umbruchs - Biografische Geschichten von Dresdner Frauen aus aller Welt
with NAZANIN ZANDI
The exhibition STIMMEN DES UMBRUCHS provides an insight into the life stories of women of different origins, religions, sexual orientations and languages. The stories are taken from the comic book STIMMEN, edited by Nazanin Zandi and Elena Pagel. They report on everyday but challenging situations: They tell of crises and upheavals, of arriving in a foreign country, of discrimination and inequality. At the same time, they turn the perspective to the solidary and empowering paths that women have taken to face the challenges. In the comics, we encounter fundamental values that are part of the core promise of democracies: Freedom, equality, solidarity and diversity. They provide resources with the help of which both personal and social times of upheaval can be dealt with peacefully and empoweringly.

WORKSHOP
Zur Transformation in Lebenswegen - Ein wissenschaftlicher Blick auf biografische Comic-Zeichnungen
with DR. MAREN HACHMEISTER and NAZANIN ZANDI
Selected comic stories from the exhibition STIMMEN DES UMBRUCHS will be the starting point for a workshop with the scientist Dr. Maren Hachmeister (Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism) and the artist Nazanin Zandi to discuss experiences of transformation and upheaval. With them, we will consider which social reactions have a self-empowering effect in times of upheaval, how transformation is discussed in the academic context, which theories exist on this and how these can be connected to the comics.

Mon, 27.06.2022 | 07.00 pm READING AND DISCUSSION Die DDR schien mir eine Verheißung Ed. by the Landesnetzwerk Migrantenorganisationen Sachsen-Anhalt (LAMSA) e. V. in collaboration with DaMOst e. V.
The two contemporary witnesses Piedoso Manave and Mahmoud Dabdoub told of their experiences in the GDR, at the time of the peaceful revolution and in the transformation years. Monika Kubrova from DaMOst reported from the perspective of the editor on the book project "...die DDR schien mir eine Verheißung.".
The book „... die DDR schien mir eine Verheißung." Migrantinnen und Migranten in der DDR und in Ostdeutschland (Ammian Verlag 2022) brings together 16 life stories of people who entered the GDR between 1966 and 1989 from nine different countries and for very different reasons, experienced the Wende and decided to stay in East Germany. The very different biographies, which paint a multifaceted picture of life in the GDR and East Germany, have one central thing in common: the change of system demanded a great deal of adjustment from all the narrators. How the narrators mastered these years of upheaval after the Wende, during which they embarked on new career paths, raised children, supported their families, did voluntary work and repeatedly endured the stress of racist threats, is as exciting as it is inspiring and was the focus of the reading and the subsequent discussion.
In addition, the photo exhibition Brotherland by the artists Martina Zaninelli and Thomas Jacobs could be viewed, with which hidden and forgotten narratives are brought back into social consciousness.
The event took place in cooperation with the Montagscafé at the Kleines Haus of the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the TU Dresden, anDemos e. V. - Institute for Applied Democracy and Social Research, the Kulturbüro Sachsen e. V. and the Initiativkreis Gedenken. Remember.Remind. The Monday Café, an intercultural meeting place and forum for exchange for all citizens from the city and the region, deals with migration and culture in weekly changing evening events.
Wed, 18.05.2022 | 07.00 pm DISCUSSION
Revolution und Umbruch – Belarus im Fokus with Dr. OLGA SHPARAGA, Belarusian activist and philosopher
In her book Die Revolution hat ein weibliches Gesicht. Der Fall Belarus (Suhrkamp 2021), philosopher and activist Olga Shparaga recounts the revolutionary events of 2020 in Belarus, focusing in particular on the role of Belarusian women. Hundreds of thousands of courageous citizens of all social classes opposed a brutal regime in a non-violent, creative and self-organised way.
What has happened in Belarus since the presidential elections on 9 August 2020? How can the revolutionary events in Minsk and other cities between the EU and Russia be described? How does one look from the opposition of Belarus at what is happening in Ukraine? How does the war there change the situation in Belarus? Together with the Belarusian activist Olga Shparaga, we turned to these and other questions and discussed them in the context of European and global emancipation movements.
Speaker: Dr. OLGA SHPARAGA, Philosopher, Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin
Moderation: Prof. ANIKA WALKE, Historian, Washington University in St. Louis and Imre Kertész, Kolleg Jena

READING
Solidarität in Umbruchszeiten
Or: Die Revolution hat ein weibliches Gesicht. Der Fall Belarus. (Suhrkamp Verlag, Berlin 2021)
with Dr. OLGA SHPARAGA, Belarusian activist and philosopher
Olga Shparaga's book tells of the women of the revolutionary events in Belarus in 2020. These are stories of a power in solidarity rising up against dictatorial violence. This power, supported by many, gains its strength from the horizontal, mutually supportive relationships among the protesting citizens of Belarus. In post-revolutionary times, this form of solidarity - based on common, mutually supportive and sustaining political action - is often lost far too quickly. How can it be preserved in democracies? What does it mean - in revolutions and democracies? And under what conditions can solidarity-based action emerge at all?
We talked about these and many other questions together with the Belarusian activist and philosopher Olga Shparaga.
