Retroviruses: Replication Mechanisms and Gene Therapy Tools
Research interests of the Chair of Molecular Virology are the characterization of molecular and cellular mechanisms of the replication strategy of retroviruses as well as the development and use of retroviral vector systems in gene therapeutic treatment strategies. The main research object are spuma- or foamy viruses, which represent a special kind of retroviruses with unique properties.
Research Areas
The Chair of Molecular Virology is currently engaged in the research areas of,
-Particle Morphogenesis of Retroviruses
-Structure and Function of Viral Glycoproteins
- Interaction of Retroviruses with the Innate Immune System
-Development and Application of Retroviral Vector Systems
