work group for psychosocial research in paediatric oncology Dresden - Leipzig
The work group “psychosocial research in paediatric oncology Dresden - Leipzig“ has been founded in cooperation between the university hospitals in Dresden (Professorship for Psychiatric Diagnostics and Intervention, Paediatric Oncology und Haematology) and Leipzig and the parents‘ associations in Dresden and Leipzig (Sonnenstrahl e.V. Dresden, Elternhilfe e.V. Leipzig). The work group aims to improve psychosocial support of children with cancer and their families. In order to meet this goal, instruments to measure psychosocial burden (e.g. Fear of Progression Questionnaire, screening on psychosocial burden during follow-up care) are tested in terms of their psychometric properties, and structured programmes (e.g. programme for siblings of children with cancer) are evaluated.
The work group closely collaborates with the research work group of the „Psychosocial Association in Paediatric Oncology and Haematology (PSAPOH)“ to improve the psychosocial care for children and adolescents with cancer and hematological diseases as well as their families. Moreover, further qualifications and trainings for people working in psychosocial care, as well as the development of psychosocial work concepts, standards, and guidelines, are of central importance.
