On this page you will find more information about the courses offered by the Chair
AD810 - main design, AD911 detailed design
Passerelle Sociale - A place of movement and encounter between the banks of the Neisse
In the coming summer semester, we will be working on the reactivation of a former recreational area on the Neisse in Görlitz. The aim is to build a bridge between Poland and Germany for pedestrians and cyclists and to connect the previously inaccessible Neisse islands for bathing.
The design of a barrier-free bridge over the Neisse in the vicinity of the historic viaduct in combination with a natural bathing area focuses on the synergy of load-bearing structure and architectural form, taking into account the context of the viaduct, parks and river landscape.

AD935 - Advanced module Construction and Technology
Architecture and Structures
Crtl + G - Controlling Geometry
In the coming semester, the course "Architecture and Structures" is dedicated to the basics and advanced techniques of 3D modeling and parametric design.
In four consecutive sub-tasks, models will be developed and deepened step by step using real examples. Workshops and consultations teach the necessary techniques for modelling complex geometries and are supplemented by short excursions on visualization and file organization.

AD610 - scientific work
Scientific work
Re-use in construction - Circular load-bearing structures
In this semester's module, we will focus on the investigation of circular and recyclable load-bearing structures.
In addition to historical discussions of the topic, current issues relating to the use of materials, production processes and joining details will also be the focus of consideration. Focal points can be chosen individually based on the following suggested topics.
- Use of spolia from antiquity to modern times
- Solid and circular
- Clay as a circular building material
- Circular construction with reinforced concrete
- Circular construction with steel
- Circular construction with wood
- Modular construction
Registration via SELMA and further information on OPAL.
AD510 - constructive design
Integrated teaching in the 2nd main design
Sky over Heinersdorf - Cultural activation of an obsolete water tower with event hall in Berlin Pankow
The subject of this semester's task is the cultural activation of an obsolete water tower with an event hall in Berlin Pankow.
You will be supervised by members of both Chairs. The aim is to develop a holistic, integral design idea that combines the aspects of both departments into a coherent solution.
On our side, the focus is on innovative structural solutions that harmonize the architectural idea with the structural requirements.

Chair of Structural Design
ACCESS - Master Program
Form Finding Techniques of Lightweight Structures
In the upcoming summer semester 2025, the chair of structural design offers for the third time an english-taught course within the master program of Advanced Computational and Civil Engineering Structural Studies.
We offer this elective course for 2nd-semester students of the ACCESS program. The module will introduce the students to different strategies and techniques for form finding of lightweight structures such as shells, cable nets and membranes. Particular attention will be paid to the practical application of the theoretical knowledge in workshops.
More information can be found on the OPAL platform.
Registration via SELMA.
Summer School
Circular Design Challenge 2025 (12.-22.08.2025)
Summer School in Pillnitz Palace and Park, Design Campus
The Circular Design Challenge 2025 is organized by the Chair for Structural Design at TU Dresden in collaboration with the Design Campus at Pillnitz Palace and Park, supported by experts from Penn State University, EPFL, UNU-FLORES, TU Delft and other institutions with funding from DRESDEN-concept and TU Dresden.
A core focus of the Circular Design Challenge 2025 will be the design and construction of a summer pavilion at Pillnitz Palace Garden, using reclaimed materials from the Victoria Factory in Heidenau. Students will work in interdisciplinary teams, developing concepts through peer and expert feedback, culminating in a final public presentation.
The Circular Design Challenge will be open to students from architecture, civil engineering, and related fields who are eager to engage in sustainable circular design. Stay tuned for the application process on the upcoming website!
AD692 - Study trip architecture
Study trip Graubünden (09.06. - 13.06.2025) - Building in the context of the landscape
In addition to the design studio Passerelle Sociale, we are organizing a study trip to Graubünden with a special focus on structures and architecture in the landscape context.
In preparation for the excursion, selected buildings will be analyzed and summarized in an excursion reader. Works by Max Bill, Jürg Conzett, Christian Kerez, Robert Maillart, Peter Märkli, Christian Menn, Valerio Olgiati and Peter Zumthor, among others, will be analyzed and visited.
Participation in the study trip is also possible independently of the main and in-depth design. Travel time (expected): 09.06. - 13.06.2025
Registration via SELMA.
