Based on the historically increasing portfolio, the focus of the chair is on the design and further development and redevelopment of complex urban systems on a wide variety of benchmark levels while taking into consideration their technical, ecological, economic and sociocultural framework conditions.

Thematic focal points include regionally varied demographic and economic developments, the change in living and working conditions as well as infrastructural innovation and criteria for sustainable development. Orientation on action, interdisciplinary working, the transfer of knowledge and international exchange are fundamental principles in teaching and research.
