Chair of Urban Development
In research and teaching, the Chair deals with the instruments of urban planning, in particular the Flächennutzungsplan (preparatory land-use plan) and Bebauungsplan (legally-binding local construction plan). At the same time, links to other municipal sectoral planning are investigated such as to local landscape planning and the interaction of municipal spatial plans with the superordinate level of regional planning. The focus of interest is not merely the plans themselves and their specific contents but also the planning process of urban development. Internationally, the Chair aims to examine and refine the ‘Land Use Zoning Plan’ as a tool to ensure more sustainable forms of urban development. This involves recourse to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (especially Goal 11) and the framework set by the New Urban Agenda (Habitat III).
