Studies
The analysis of the complex urban context and its design are permanent components of the course of studies in architecture at Technische Universität Dresden.
During the basic course of studies, technical knowledge and design tools are introduced in lectures and exercises as part of the “Fundamentals of Urban Design” module. Since this course is also a mandatory module for the Bachelor’s program in landscape architecture, initial experience in interdisciplinary work is gained.
During the third year of studies, knowledge of urban design and open space planning in the urban context is deepened in cooperation with colleagues and students in landscape architecture.
During the main course of studies, all students are required to focus on urban planning matters in lectures and design courses. The option to delve deeper into urban design is also available. This is a specific extension of the architecture course of studies which connects spatial thinking and design to conceptual urban and regional planning-related as well as technical, legal, economic and organizational skills. In consultation with the chambers, the goal is to enable the option to be subsequently entered into the list of urban planners.
