SMART CITY ATLAS DRESDEN
Since August 2015 the team of the Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture has been identifying and collecting projects in Dresden that are developing or offering smart solutions improving social, technical, and economical infrastructures in cities. The analysis was funded by the Economic Development Office of the State Capital Dresden. A crucial goal is to create a Smart City Atlas Dresden as a pool of potential actors that could be connected for upcoming funding programs – i.e. Horizon 2020 calls. It supports a targeted, efficient, and effective addressing of potential organizations forming strong consortia.
Another benefit is that the recorded projects can show their competencies and contact details on an online profile to become more visible. With the profile they can also get in touch with other actors, start co-operation projects, and build a bigger network. The Economic Development Office of Dresden will also run marketing as well as public relations campaigns, release prints, and establish networking events based on this data.
In the first step, the Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture developed the concept of the Smart City Atlas by monitoring projects in Dresden and analyzing their sectors and needs. Based on these findings a list of criteria was defined helping to sort projects by their characteristics. As a second step, the characteristics were transferred to an online form where projects can type in their project names, describe their (technical) solutions, choose “smart”-categories and branches, list involved partners, and name co-operation demands. The form was bedded in a website giving information to interested stakeholders and potential project-owners. For step three, collecting the data, local networks and associations of companies and research institutions were studied and a list of projects and contact persons was created. All potential projects were contacted and as a result over 35 projects registered on the website.
