What is the FSR?
The Fachschaftsrat Hydrowissenschaften currently consists of 25 elected members and additional volunteers. It is elected annually by all students of the Hydrosciences Department and represents their interests. According to the Saxon law on the freedom of higher education, the FSR acts as an organ of student self-administration.
But what does that mean exactly? What do we do?
During the lecture period, we meet weekly on Tuesdays to work on and discuss upcoming tasks, events, course-specific questions, applications, etc. The meetings do not take place behind closed doors. If you are interested in our work or would like to participate, you are very welcome.
We are planning regular and irregular events to network students of our field and maybe also of our faculty. At the top of our list are the first semester courses. They serve the purpose of networking our freshmen from the very beginning and thus make it easier for them to start their studies. A nice side-effect: we as the student council act as direct contact persons regarding study matters and perhaps stay a little in the back of their minds. This is very important to us. After all, we were elected to perform precisely this task. To this end, we have set ourselves the goal of making our presence more public, e.g. through regular newsletters (not too much, of course, because we don't want to end up as spam in your e-mail inbox) and information events.
Further tasks of the student council include delegations to the committees of the study administration. We have put together a list of the committees and what they serve for here.
What questions may you ask us?
Anything that is on your mind regarding your studies in our field of study. There are no silly questions. Don't forget: we are all students ourselves, scattered throughout all semesters and courses of study in the field of hydro sciences. That's why we can put ourselves into your problems and concerns very well and try to help you with words and deeds. It is obvious that we do not always have the ultimate answer for all questions. Nevertheless, in such cases we will try to help you with tips.
Especially when it comes to matters that concern the examination commitee (be it the prolongation of a bachelor thesis or master thesis, exmatriculation issues, etc.), we kindly ask you to let us know. It is best to talk to us in advance before you contact them. In some cases, it is also sufficient to sit down in the CC of the e-mail traffic between you and the examination commitee to give us more transparency. Because we send student representatives to the there and we also have a say. But if we are not informed about negative decisions of the committee, we cannot stand up for you.
How can we support you?
It is possible to have a small portion of the costs for privately organized, subject-related excursions subsidized by the student council. To do so, you need to submit an application to us in advance (including a statement of reasons and a list of costs), obtain a certificate of participation during the excursion (e.g. have participation confirmed by a lecturer) and ask the student council for a decision on the application.
And one more thing: If you browse our homepage carefully, you might find out about our collection of exams. We don't want to write too much about it, but it should make it easier for you to prepare for the exam. You can ask us for access to it, but it is very important that it is not placed in public networks or accessed by lecturers/professors. Please make sure that we can all continue to benefit from this collection.
