Guest researchers
- Dr. Slawomir Sitek (POLAND)
Topic: Optimisation and further development of a managed aquifer recharge scheme in Tarnow city, Poland. During his three-month visit in Dresden, Dr. Sitek used the web-based modelling platform of the INOWAS group to develop a numerical groundwater flow model that can be used for the optimisation and safe operation of a managed aquifer recharge scheme in the city of Tarnow in Poland.
09.2022 - 11.2022 - Dr. Anis Chekirbane (TUNISIA)
Topic: Enhancing the implementation of managed aquifer recharge (MAR) through geospatial analysis and web-based decision support tools to cope with water scarcity in arid and semi-arid regions of Tunisia. The aim of the project was to develop a GIS-based methodology for the selection of suitable sites for the application of MAR in Tunisia and to assess the applicability potential of MAR in the Enfidha Aquifer System (Sahel of Tunisia as pilot zone).
11.2020 - 01.2021 - Dr. Konstantinos Panagiotou (CYPRUS)
Topic: Sensor-based monitoring of managed aquifer recharge (MAR) processes at the Ezousa MAR scheme in Cyprus and numerical modelling of the aquifer using the web-based INOWAS platform. The scope of the short-term visit at INOWAS was to get familiar with the INOWAS modelling environment and develop a conceptual model for the Ezousa MAR scheme in Cyprus (as part of the joint SMART-Control project).
03.2020 - 03.2020 - Prof. Suzana Gico Lima Montenegro (BRAZIL)
Topic: Exploration of collaboration opportunities for the development of managed aquifer recharge in Brazil. The short research stay of Prof. Montenegro aimed to intensify the collaboration between the two universities on managed aquifer recharge and initiation of join research activities.
09.2018 - 11.2018 - Shany Ben Moshe (ISRAEL)
Topic: Optimisation of recharge rates in soil-aquifer-recharge (SAT) systems using 6-m soil column experiments. The research stay was funded by the German–Israeli Cooperation in Water Technology Research through the Young Scien-tists Exchange Program (YSEP).
08.2018 - 09.2018 - Dr. Anna Jurado (SPAIN)
Topic: Fate of emerging organic contaminants during managed aquifer recharge. The post-doctoral research fellowship was awarded as part of the programme Open Topic Postdoc Positions (OTPP) of Technische Universität Dresden. The research stay was hosted in collaboration with the Chair of Contaminant Hydrology.
11.2017 - 10.2019 - Dr. Girma Yimer Ebrahim (SOUTH AFRICA)
Topic: Assessment of managed aquifer recharge solutions for developing countries, especially in semi-arid African context, and development of MAR suitability map for the African continent. The main scope of the research stay was to develop a MAR suitability map for Africa using the INOWAS GIS-based multi-criteria decision analysis.
10.2017 - 12.2017 - Dr. Lydia Kwoyiga (GHANA)
Topic: Institutions, groundwater resources and climate change adaptation in northern Ghana. The doctoral research project aims to contribute to the assessment of the effectiveness of the country’s climate change adaptation policies and programmes and also to contribute to scientific data regarding climate change and groundwater resources in the Atankwidi sub-basin of Volta catchment (Northern Ghana).
10.2016 - 04.2020 - Dr. Miguel Alonzo Moreno Gomez (MEXICO)
Topic: Development of an integrated strategy for karst aquifer vulnerability assessment. The aim of this doctoral research is the development of an integrated vulnerability approach for karst areas.
03.2015 - 04.2019 - Dr. José Pablo Bonilla Valverde (COSTA RICA)
Topic: Managed aquifer recharge in Costa Rica: a tool for managing water scarcity during the dry season. The overall objective of this doctoral research project is to evaluate the suitability of the managed aquifer recharge (MAR) techniques in the Costa Rican environmental conditions in order to regulate the water temporal distribution.
