Construction of a Signal Garden at the Building Potthoff
Construction of a signal garden at the building Potthoff
The Chair of Signalling and Transport Safety Technology has been following the plan to expand the signalling laboratory with a signal garden installed with original signals for years. For one thing, it shall serve to improve the quality of teaching in practical training. For another, it will enhance the public image of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences as it is situated at a prominent location adjacent to the Nürnberger Platz. This project was funded by the national funding “Investitionsprogramm Lehre”.
The construction of the signal garden was undertaken by DB Bahnbau from the 23rd to the 27th of December. A main signal from HI system provided by DB Netz and a main signal from Hp system provided by Siemens were installed free of charge. The construction of a semaphore signal, considered as a memory of the historical technology, will be carried out in the coming year. In addition, a digital protecting signal with the latest LED technology is planned to be provided by Thales.
The wiring work for the installed signals has already taken place; the activation of the signals will be progressed by the Chair of Railway Signalling and Transport Safety Technology.
The Chair of Railway Signalling and Transport Safety Technology appreciates the support of all the parties involved in construction and expansion of the signal garden.
Update on the 8th of February, 2016
The rest of the construction work was carried out during the last week. Signal-type indicators were mounted against the posts of the signals.
