Celebrating Excellence in Energy Economics at TU Dresden
At the Chair of Energy Economics at TU Dresden, we are proud to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students and young researchers. Every year, we honor exceptional work through the enerWARD and the Best Presentation Award at ENERDAY. These awards highlight the innovative research and presentations that contribute significantly to the field of energy economics.
enerWARD
The enerWARD is awarded annually to outstanding bachelor and master/diploma theses at the Chair of Energy Economics. This prestigious award is given to theses that address current topics in the energy industry and propose new solutions for the transformation of the energy system. The awardee is given the opportunity to present their thesis at ENERDAY.
This year’s enerWARD goes to Christoph Sperling for his thesis titled “Corporate Green Bonds: Determinanten”. Christoph’s work merges the fields of energy and corporate finance, highlighting the capital-intensive challenges that companies face during the energy transition. One possibility for companies to finance these challenges is through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) bonds, which can benefit from yield discounts compared to their conventional counterparts, a phenomenon known as the 'greenium'. In his thesis, Christoph conducted an econometric causal analysis to examine five observable characteristics of ESG bonds and their conventional twins for statistical differences. His findings suggest that companies can actively enhance the greenium through transparent information disclosure and sustainable corporate management.
Best Presentation Award
Every year, the Gesellschaft für Energiewissenschaft und Energiepolitik (GEE), the German Chapter of the IAEE, enerCONNECT (the alumni and supporters association of the Chair of Energy Economics), and the organizing institutions award the Best Presentation Award to exceptional presentations by young researchers at ENERDAY. Session chairs evaluate the presentations within their sessions, and the final decision is made by a committee based on these evaluations.
This year's committee consisted of Dr. Maximilian Happach (GEE), Prof. Dr. Christian von Hirschhausen (Organizer), Lisa Lorenz (enerCONNECT), Prof. Dr. Reinhard Madlener (invited external Reviewer), Prof. Dr. Russell McKenna (invited external Reviewer), and Prof. Dr. Dominik Möst (Organizer).
The recipients of this year's Best Presentation Award are Veronika Lenivova and Jorge Sánchez Canales. Veronika's presentation, titled “Techno-economic analysis of long-distance hydrogen transport via high-voltage cables and pipelines: North Sea case study”, was lauded for her ability to present a variety of information concisely and in a visually well-structured manner. She effectively explained complex models and demonstrated in-depth knowledge during the discussion.
Jorge Sánchez Canales, from the Hertie School, was recognized for his audience-oriented approach in his presentation on “Identifying elasticities in autocorrelated time series using causal graphs”. He skillfully guided the audience through his methodological topic, presenting key findings with adequate context to ensure understanding.
We congratulate all awardees for their exceptional contributions and look forward to their continued impact on the field of energy economics.
