Multiplier-Effects and Implementation of the Eco-Audit according to EMAS II in Academic Facilities (at the Example of the TU Dresden)
Table of contents
By the mid 1990s, the first universities in Germany were dealing with the introduction of an environmental management system according to the Eco-Audit Regulations of the EU. Since February 3rd 1998, when the regulations were extended, all institutions of society - not only businesses - have been able to introduce an environmental management scheme according to the Eco-Audit Regulations. This extension was the reason for theTU Dresden to start the project "Multiplier-Effects and Implementation of the Eco-Audit according to EMAS II in Academic Facilities (at the Example of the TU Dresden)". From April 2000 to March 2002 the project was supported by the Deutsche Stiftung Umwelt (German Federal Foundation for the Environment). During this period an exploration into the various possibilities for spreading environmental ideas at universities was carried out and preparatory work for the introduction and implementation of the environmental management system was completed. The validation of the TU Dresden in autumn 2002 has to be emphasised as the most important result of the project. The project was realised by the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Environmental Management, and the Department for Factory Planning and Product Organisation at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Institute for Production Technology. The results of the research project have been published in an edition of the Environment Commission [Kommission Umwelt], No. 2/2002. It is available as a document on the internet:

The Chair of Environmental Management and Accounting continues to support the implementation of the environmental management at the TU Dresden, for example by participating in the two work groups which accompany the eco auditing process. Further information and activities regarding the environmental management system can be found on the internet under "EMAS at the TU Dresden".
