Sustainable Development of Water Supply and Water Pollution Control in the Free State of Saxony
Table of contents
The objective of this project was the examination of whether and to what degree ideas of a sustainable development have been taken into consideration in waste water disposal and water pollution control of the Free State of Saxony. Furthermore, it was revealed which factors might hinder the implementation of sustainable concepts. First, the variables which might be relevant were structured. In a second step material was collected to illustrate the current situation in the Free State of Saxony. The research was conducted in close collaboration with the Academy of Sciences in Leipzig, Subsidiary Technikfolgeabschätzung Chemnitz, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Technical Research [Zentrum für Interdisziplinäre Technikforschung] of the TU Dresden. A workshop for all relevant groups of actors and decision-makers was organised. At this meeting a so-called “value-tree” was developed which comprehends a summary of value- and target-orientations. These should help to derive different areas of action. In addition, it was investigated whether the notion of sustainable development is commonly known and whether the concept is taken into consideration in existing processes. One result was that the notion of sustainable development is not widely known. Furthermore, it is revealed that various difficulties emerge when trying to implement sustainable development.
