Different+hostile: An interdisciplinary talk on xenophobia
Different+hostile: An interdisciplinary talk on xenophobia
16th September 2019 | 7 PM | Klemperer Hall, SLUB, Zellescher Weg 18, Dresden
The questions posed to an interdisciplinary board of experts are simple: What does it mean to be “different”? What are sources of xenophobia? What are the consequences of xenophobia? What can we do to ensure that people with diverse backgrounds and roots are treated with a friendly attitude? Answers to these questions from sociology, communication studies, history, pedagogy, and psychology might help us to improve our understanding of xenophobia, a phenomenon that has been making headlines because of violence and hatred.
Organised by Rainer Riemann (Bielefeld University), Daniel Leising and Alexander Strobel (Technische Universität Dresden) and moderated by Bastian Wierzioch (MDR), this panel will bring together:
Andreas Beelmann (Jena), Measures against xenophobia
Anja Besand (Dresden), School interventions against xenophobia
Dagmar Ellerbrock (Dresden), Historical perspectives on xenophobia
Sven Engesser (Dresden), Communication perspectives
Rainer Riemann (Bielefeld), Studies on xenophobia from personality psychology
Jürgen Schupp (Berlin, DIW), Sociological and economic perspectives
Andreas Zick (Bielefeld), Perspectives from social psychology
We look forward to seeing you there!
