Does playing theater help reduce social isolation in older adults?
Social isolation and loneliness in the elderly population can be a significant healthcare challenge. In a new article by Brennan McDonald, Andrea Reiter, and Philipp Kanske, theater-based interventions with older adults are proposed as a potential means of targeting social cognition and providing complex social interactions. The researchers suggest that these interventions have the potential to reduce social isolation and loneliness, promote social engagement, improve well-being, strengthen social cognition, and ultimately facilitate successful aging in older adults.
