New Publication on Socioeconomic Status and Altruistic Behaviour
A recently published study explored the sociocognitive and neural mechanisms underlying the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on altruistic behaviours such as charitable giving. The researchers Stefan Schulreich, Anita Tusche, Philipp Kanske and Lars Schwabe demonstrated that SES predicted donations and mentalising capacities. The findings highlight that mentalising capacity can be dependent on SES – higher SES was associated with higher donations. At the brain level, the right temporal parietal junction and the putamen were associated with these SES-related differences in mentalising and donations.
