Social factors predict distress during the COVID-19 pandemic
Annika Konrad and colleagues published a longitudinal study in Frontiers in Psychology. They investigated the role of social factors, pre-existing mental disorders and distress over time during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results suggested that people with pre-existing mental disorders showed higher symptom burden when they reported high social isolation, low social resources and lower levels in the ability to empathically disconnect from others. Social factors also explained different distress trajectories over time.
