Lecture Series “Educational Systems in (Trans)Formation – Facing the global challenges”
The virtual lecture series Educational Systems in (Trans)Formation – Facing the global challenges discusses school and teacher education in international comparison. In video lectures, which are published here, international education experts from Israel, the USA, Japan, South Africa, Poland, and Germany presented and discussed their national education systems. They addressed questions such as
- What major reforms have been introduced into education systems worldwide in recent decades? How do they differ?
- How do the individual countries perform in international rankings?
- What are the most urgent challenges for teacher training, for example, and how are they being responded to?
- What role models and expectations exist with regard to the teaching profession?
- How are schools worldwide dealing with the challenges of the pandemic caused by COVID-19?
The lectures are complemented by exemplary school presentations from the participating countries, which provides an insight into local school practices.
The lecture series open to all teacher training students has been accompanied in the winter semester 2020/21 by a seminar led by Prof. Dr. Axel Gehrmann (Chair of General Didactics and Empirical Teaching Research) and Dr. Frank Beier. The seminar included interactive Q&A sessions with the international education experts as well as a concluding plenary discussion.
The lecture series had been organized by the project IMPRESS. If you have questions regarding the accompanying seminar, please contact Dr. phil. Frank Beier. If you wish to access the password-protected contents for the purpose of teaching or research, please address your request to .
