General Information

In 1998 the Centre for East Asian Studies (OAZ) was established at Dresden University of Technology as Centre for Area Studies.

Focussing on Greater China – covering the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Singapore – as well as Japan, the Centre offers various "East Asian Area Studies" programmes covering courses on Chinese and Japanese culture, society, politics, history and economy as well as language classes.

The area studies aim at deepening the students’ understanding of a non-European region and at strengthening their awareness for Asian cultural, social, political and economic perspectives thus preparing them for a global labour market which requires regional competence as one key qualification.
