Research

The Database Resesarch Group aims at generating substantial contributions by performing knowledge-driven research. Publication of excellent research results at an international level and the transfer of the existing knowledge and techniques to industrial partners are the primary goals.

Overview

Current Projects

Our research activities are part of TU Dresden's research strategy. Funding parties are amongst others, the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG), Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMVI), and European Union. Moreover, there is an intensive research cooperation with industry on a regional, national, and international level.

Finalized Projects

The manifold resesarch portfolio that is ever adapting to new challenges is mirrored by the numerous successfully finalized research projects of the Database Research Group within TU Dresden as well as with partner universities and research institutions in Germany and abroad.

Focus Topics of Research

The design and implementation of scalable, robust, and energy-efficient database systems for the analysis of large data sets (big data platforms); design of algorithms and efficient data structures to exploit modern hardware infrastructures (e.g. in-memory computing, disaggregated and hyperconverged infrastructures, non-standard computing devices...); principles of inquiry and analysis methods of very large and (semi-)structured document corpora (mainly web contents) are amongst our research focuses. Research projects are receiving third-party funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG), Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital (BMDV), and the EU amongst others.
