Klinikum Chemnitz
The Department of Psychiatry, Behavioural Medicine and Psychosomatics of the Klinikum Chemnitz has 180 beds for inpatient care, 60 day care places and offers outpatient care for all mental disorders in the catchment area of Dresden. Treatment for all mental disorders are provided, with a special focus on:
- Dementia and organic mental disorders, incl. neuropsychiatric disorders
- Substance Abuse disorders, with differentiated options for alcohol dependency (“S1-treatment”), polyvalent drug abuse with and without drug induced psychoses as well as chronically injured alcoholics
- Psychotic disorders, differentiated diagnostics and therapy of schizophrenic psychoses
- Affective disorders, especially bipolar and chronic resp. therapy resistant depression (ECT, rTMS, VNS)
- Anxiety disorders and OCD
- Personality disorders, especially borderline disorder (DBT)
Further, Dr. Thomas Barth is chairman of the Sächsische wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Nervenheilkunde (SWGN), the regional society of psychiatrists, child and youth psychiatrists, neurologists and psychosomatics and chairman of the ethics committee of the Klinikum Chemnitz.
In cooperation with other institutions and hospitals (Dresden University Clinic, Technical University of Chemnitz, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau), the department participates in research on:
- Health services research and Mental health care (IQIP, PEPP, PPP-RL)
- Emergency psychiatry
- Addiction
- Psychopharmacology (Dementia, Schizophrenia, Bipolar and TRD, incl. Phase 2-4 studies)
