Review and outlook

Dear members, dear sponsors,
Dear friends and alumni of the Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group,

In our news last Friday, we were delighted to report on Andrea Hauslbauer, former doctoral student of the 3rd Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group. Dr. Hauslbauer successfully defended her dissertation "Pathways towards the reduction of private car use from a psychological perspective" on 12.01.2024 and is consequently included in the list of completed doctoral projects to date. The awarding of the gown and the doctoral hat, usually lovingly designed by the Chair, after the successful defence of the dissertation is the moment when pride and relief about the achievement prevail and a situation for which those have worked long and hard. In future, we will also award a sash at this moment, which will be embroidered with the names of all alumni since the first cohort of the Research Training Group. This is intended to become a tradition that symbolises the solidarity and intergenerational team spirit of the Research Training Group. It is also intended to motivate subsequent generations and visualise the goal - which is why the robe is on display for all to see in the Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group meeting room when it is not urgently needed at a defence.

A successful doctorate is seen as a scientific seal of quality both for the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation and for TU Dresden and emphasises the scientific importance of interdisciplinary research within our Research Training Group.

It is important to us that this goal is consistently pursued by all doctoral projects in the previous cohorts. We will therefore discuss with the academic supervisors of the doctoral theses from the second and third Research Training Groups that have not yet been completed when the respective dissertation can be expected to be completed.
