Managing Director Dr. Anna Martius as guest at the Women@DDc Tuesday Expert Talk
The new series of events Tuesday Expert Talk with Role Models within the Women@DDc Network, which started in February 2023 and is organized together with the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB), is aimed at both female scientists and female science managers who would like to get an overview of the diverse tasks found within the scientific sector. To this end, female science managers from various fields are invited every month to report on their work and careers.
At the fourth Women@DDc Tuesday Expert Talk on May 9, 2023, at the COSMO Science Forum in the Kulturpalast Dresden, Dr.-Ing. Anna Martius was joined by Dr.-Ing. Shikha Ranjha, Scientific Coordinator at the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS), and Dr. Katharina Ulbrich, Systemic Coach and Mediator at the Graduate Academy of TU Dresden. Moderated by Arantxa Sánchez and Johanna Wolter, the three experts reported on science management in the postdoc field and were available for discussions about graduate programs.
In this way, the numerous participants with international backgrounds gained a practical insight into the professional field. There was also the opportunity to get concrete career tips. Some audience members are currently at a crossroads and are faced with the decision of whether to stay in academia for a PhD or a postdoc, or to enter private industry. Others wondered whether a PhD is beneficial for a career in science management or how best to manage a PhD while preparing for the next step in their career. Key qualifications for coordinating postdoc and graduate programs are communication, language, organizational, and social skills.
With Dr. Martius, Dr. Ranjha, and Dr. Ulbrich, three impressive role models shared their career paths and experiences with the audience and encouraged all present to follow their passion.
A final piece of advice from the experts: Keep networking!
The next Women@DDc Expert Talk will take place on June 6, then with a focus on Advisor/Special Consultant (info here).
