Review of the 9th Doctoral Students' Days 2023 in Altensteig/Simmersfeld
From May 10 to 12, 2023, the Doctoral Students' Days took place again in Altensteig, Germany, now for the first time with the new doctoral students of the Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group and their supervisors. In addition to the members of the now 4th generation of the RTG, the doctoral students from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the University of Stuttgart, who are also funded by the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation, came to the northern Black Forest to present their projects to the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation.
The program of the conference included entertaining pitch presentations of the doctoral students of the 1st funding year, but also longer presentations of projects from the 2nd funding year, and offered everyone the opportunity to get to know the new doctoral students and their projects better or to follow the project progress of longer funded projects compared to the previous year. A poster session followed the shorter project pitches and also provided space for subsequent discussions.
Before Prof. Lutz Hagen, speaker for the Research Training Group, gave an overview of the development and current status of the group in introduction to the presentations from Dresden, speaker Prof. Antonio Hurtado shared warm words of welcome online from his delegation trip to Princeton University (USA). After the project pitches on the first day, the longer presentations on the part of the Dresdeners on the following day were an update of the former bridge projects, now integrated into clusters E to H, and the associated project of Max Vater. Stefan Heidinger, former 3rd generation doctoral student of the group who will defend his dissertation thesis soon, outlined in his presentation his research work from his time at the Boysen-TUD- RTG from 2019 to early 2023.
As is tradition, on the evening of the first day, a guided tour of the Boysen GmbH production facility was organized in several groups. This was also very exciting for those who had already been there several times as it showed how the company, which used to specialize only in the production of classic exhaust systems for motor vehicles, is adapting to current needs, and investing in additional product portfolios.
The "Landgasthof Hirsch", where tradition and hospitality are very important, accommodated the participants with open arms and hearty dishes, and enabled everyone to expand their network in a relaxed atmosphere in a very pleasant way. We thank you very much for the excellent organization and hosting of the Doctoral Students' Days 2023 and look forward to seeing you again in Altensteig next year!
