Guest Lecture from Prof. Engesser

Prof. Sven Engesser (Vortragender)
The communications research specialist Prof. Sven Engesser presented his research field "Internet of Things (IoT)" on Thursday, 14.12.2017, in his lecture "Humans in the Internet of Things (HIT)". Prof. Engesser has been Professor for Science and Technology Communication since October 1, 2017, alongside Prof. Hagen (Political and Economic Communication) at the Institute for Communication Science at TU Dresden.
Beginning with the quotation "Technology is neither good nor bad; nor is it neutral" (Melvin Kranzberg, 1986), the central questions of his lecture included: What is the Internet of Things?, Why should we care about the IoT?, and How can we investigate the IoT? In addition to examples and definitions, the lecture also included the interdisciplinary perspectives of the IoT, which involves scientists from all disciplines, as well as which research questions, especially in the field of communication science, are to be answered. After the lecture a lively discussion ensued, especially on how individuals react to the IoT.
