Doctoral student of the 3rd RTG with new publication
Ms Zarina Chokparova, a doctoral student of the 3rd Research Training Group, presents her latest publication in ELSEVIER. The publication entitled Cryptographic protocol for privacy-preserving integration of HAZOPs in modular process plants (HAZOP: Hazard and Operability) is available online here. Ms Chokparova is about to complete her dissertation. She worked on sub-project B3 Confidentiality in SD-MSCs in Cluster B of the 3rd Research Training Group, Software-Defined Mobile Supply Chains.
Highly sensitive information contained in Hazard & Operability (HAZOP) studies can reveal vulnerabilities in a system and potential ways to circumvent security measures. In the development of systems that require collaboration along a value chain, this information will eventually be shared between multiple parties. This paper proposes a methodology for securely exchanging security information while preserving sensitive information for the application of modular HAZOP studies. Homomorphic encryption is used in a workflow for the exchange of information between plant owners and operators, and module providers. An encryption algorithm is applied to, combines, and compares the risks from different modular HAZOPs (mHAZOPs) without disclosing the level of risk. The authors' contribution is a privacy-preserving protocol for mHAZOP comparison in the integration of modular processes and facilities. The paper describes an exemplary implementation of the protocol, and demonstrates its confidentiality and correctness.
