From the Desk to the Running Track
Once again this year, the Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group joined thousands of running enthusiasts in participating in the REWE Team Challenge, continuing a tradition that has long since become a popular highlight outside of their daily research routines. Under the name H2 Jets (photo above, from left to right) Jannik Amon, Dr. Matthias Ritter, Sampath Weerappulli, and Varun Gurugubelli represented the Research Training Group on the time-honored 5-km course through Dresden.
With over 28,500 participants from numerous companies and organizations in the region, the event once again created an impressive atmosphere throughout the city. With 544 runners, TU Dresden once again fielded the largest team, impressively underscoring its strong sense of community and enthusiasm for the event (see also REWE Team Challenge: TUD once again had the largest team in 2026).
With plenty of motivation, team spirit, and good cheer, the H2 Jets conquered the course from start to finish. Along the route, they were loudly cheered on by spectators and other participants. Their efforts paid off: With an outstanding 802nd-place finish, the team achieved another successful milestone in the history of the RTG’s participation in the REWE Team Challenge.
In addition to the athletic competition, the event above all offered an opportunity to interact outside the academic setting, celebrate shared successes, and further strengthen the sense of unity within the Research Training Group. Whether striving for a personal best, enjoying the special atmosphere of one of Dresden’s largest sporting events, or crossing the finish line together—each and every individual helped make this evening a special experience.
The REWE Team Challenge has once again shown that endurance, teamwork, and mutual support are crucial not only in research but also on the running course. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all participants who represented the Boysen-TU Dresden-Research Training Group with great dedication and enthusiasm. We’re already looking forward to lacing up our running shoes again next year!
