Summer seminars 2024
Summer is almost over! Today we are talking about the annual scientific event of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, the Summer Seminars 2024.
From Thursday, August 29 to Saturday, August 31, 2024, Prof. Stefan Kaskel's group (Chair of Inorganic Chemistry 1, TU Dresden) hosted their annual Summer Seminars, a gathering where the latest findings of the entire research group are shared at a retreat away from the labs. This year's event took place at Ettersburg Castle in Weimar, about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive from Dresden. With bright sunshine and good weather in Weimar, the 30 researchers enjoyed 19 lectures and a fruitful discussion with the group, which focused on electrocatalysts, batteries, COFs, MOFs and ionotronics.
The group organized a visit to IBU-tec(https://www.linkedin.com/company/ibu-tec-advanced-materials-ag/posts/) in Weimar, where they were able to see industrial processes for the production of catalysts up close, e.g. by impregnation and pyrolysis, methods that are often used on a laboratory scale in the Boysen TUD Research Training Group project G1 (doctoral student Lairana Lima Duarte). The company is also involved in thermal processing with rotary kiln and pulsation reactor technology, materials for batteries and electronic applications, process trials and scale-up facilities, tolling services, engineering and optimization. The visit was led by IBU-tec's Head of R&D Dr. Karl Wegner, a TU Dresden graduate who completed his doctorate as part of the so called nano group in Prof. Kaskel's department.
The research group also enjoyed a city tour with a local guide through Weimar, where one comes into contact with Goethe's influence at virtually every corner. A subsequent pub quiz whetted everyone's competitive appetite.
We wish everyone a great end to the summer and a good preparation for the fall, which begins with the Autumn School of the Boysen-TU Dresden- Research Training Group on September 30, 2024.
