1st Prize City Hall of the Future Berlin - Atelier . Schmelzer . Weber

Paul Schmelzer, Research Associate at the Chair of Architectural Design and Construction I, and his partner Peter Weber won the competition against 156 architectural firms with their design for the new Mitte City Hall in Berlin. The competition jury headed by Senate Building Director Petra Kahlfeldt and District Councillor Ephraim Gothe, chaired by Birgit Rapp, selected the design as the winner for realization. Hagen Grütze, a freelance lecturer at the Chair of Structural Design, was also involved in the competition on an interdisciplinary basis.

The jury praised the winning design as a "successful contribution to the planning task for a new, future-oriented town hall". The urban positioning together with the restrained, elegant appearance was positively emphasized, as was the opening of the building to the public.

The entire Chair team and the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape are delighted for Paul and congratulate him, his office and all the specialist planners involved on this huge success.
