INKEWES workshops on the transformation of brownfield sites in Saxony
The interdisciplinary research project INKEWES deals with the revitalization of derelict industrial monuments in Saxony in connection with sustainable energy concepts for the buildings themselves and the surrounding districts. To this end, three properties are being examined in detail: the Schreyersche Baumwollspinnerei in Falkenau, the Neufert building in Weißwasser and the Nudelei in Löbau.
To this end, the Chair of Monument Conservation and Design, the Institute of Building Climatology and the Institute of Urbanism and Design first examined reference objects. These references and the objects themselves were then exhibited in the "Old Works, New Warmth" exhibition at the ZfBk and a magazine was published.
Then, in November and December, the team visited local stakeholders who could potentially contribute to the energy and neighborhood concepts. There, with the help of keynote speeches and a tool on the topic of stakeholders and energy supply, the team discussed initial approaches to revitalizing the building that combine cultural and commercial uses with an energy-efficient building strategy. To this end, administration, politics, urban society, energy supply, culture, monument preservation and the neighborhood were brought together to incorporate different perspectives. The post provides an insight into these workshops.
The results are now being finalized.
