bachelor thesis
A Bachelor's thesis at the Chair of Landscape Planning offers the opportunity to deal intensively with the content-related and methodological issues of the subject area, either in terms of scientific theory and/or planning. Finding, narrowing down and expanding the topic are part of the project in the subject area. Suggestions are provided by studies or current specialist discussions. In addition, topics are also requested by communities and associations. The range of possible topics is therefore very diverse and can be expanded or modified at any time through individual suggestions. The topics are largely worked on independently.
Table of contents
Topics for bachelor theses in landscape planning in the winter semester 2025/26
If you are interested, please send an e-mail to Prof. Schmidt by 12.09.2025 at the latest (also before). From 25.08.-05.09.25 Mrs. Schmidt is not available due to vacation, during this period please contact Dr. Seidler or Dr. Hanke. In addition, individual topics are also gladly supported, please contact Ms . Werblow as early as possible if you have any ideas! Workstations can be reserved via Ms. Werblow.
Basic GIS knowledge (at LB 410 level) is required for all topics, as data is usually available as shapes and at least one data export is required. If advanced GIS knowledge is required for selected topics, this is indicated in the brief descriptions below.
The following topics, which are also illustrated in the video, will be offered in the coming winter semester.
Please register for the topics at the department by September 12, 2025 at the latest (better well in advance, as the number of places is limited).
1 Dresden- Zschieren
The Zschieren gravel pits are still an insider tip for many in Dresden. They are relevant both for landscape-based recreation and - together with the Elbe meadows and smaller bodies of water and ruderal areas - for an astonishing number of rare species. The task is to carry out a topic-related analysis and evaluation (individually, not as a group), similar to LB410. On this basis, a concept with objectives and measures is to be developed for the selected protected asset, whereby the task is reduced compared to LB410 and adapted to the processing time. For the Dresden - Zschieren plan area, either a species and biotope protection concept or a recreation concept can therefore be developed, depending on preference.
- Planning and scientific work (text and plans)
2 Routes of industrial culture in Central Saxony
In 2014, the Central Saxony Cultural Landscape Project proposed the establishment of tourist routes of industrial culture, along which visitors could experience evidence of Central Saxony's rich cultural and industrial history. What has become of this? And what is worth pursuing as of 2025 and how? In 2014, a number of highlights of industrial culture in Central Saxony were mapped and five route suggestions were made. But what suggestions for possible tourist routes can be made today? On the basis of our own route proposals, one will be selected and examined in depth. What specific measures should be implemented to bring the route to life?
- Design work (plans and design book only)
3 Narrow-gauge experiences
The narrow-gauge railroad between Mulda and Sayda was an important commercial link for the inhabitants and businesses located in the Ore Mountains around 1900. It connected the valley of the Chemnitzbach stream in the Ore Mountains with Central Saxony and was used to transport both goods and passengers. It was finally replaced by bus services in 1966. The line has now been largely dismantled, but still offers potential for development as a north-south connection. Should it perhaps become a hiking trail? Or a cycle route? Or an adventure trail with an audio walk? The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to take stock of the current situation on site and draw up proposals for the future development of the old route.
- Depending on your personal preference, this could be a scientific planning project (text and plans), an audio walk or design work (plans and design book only).
