LM 310 Project Landscape Architecture (Advanced)
(Project work 200 h; 10 cp)
In the specialization project, students can select and work on a landscape planning topic according to their individual focus and interests. Design, planning and scientific as well as scientific-theoretical work is possible.
The aim of design work is to develop a landscape planning concept (design) for a specific planning area and given thematic focus. Students develop a methodical approach tailored to the problem, analyze and evaluate the planning area using landscape planning methods and derive objectives, measures and requirements for solving the problem. In scientific-theoretical work, the focus is on a textual examination of a current landscape planning issue. In planning-scientific works, both approaches are combined.
Zschoner Grund landscape development concept
Dresden has had a large-scale nature conservation project since 2024! The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation will fund the implementation of nature conservation measures in selected planning areas over the next few years, including the Zschoner Grund, which is part of the western loess plateau. The area extends from the city limits of Kesselsdorf to the Elbe.
The project addresses the following main questions:
- What specific nature conservation measures can we use to enhance the plan area so that the biotope network and habitat qualities are strengthened and we simultaneously meet the usage requirements for the area?
- Which nature conservation measures should be prioritized based on the species and biotopes present?
- What cooperation and cumulative effects are specifically possible between nature conservation objectives and agricultural interests and also take into account the requirements of other uses (e.g. recreation)?
As a result, a landscape planning development concept with a focus on species and biotopes will be developed for the area in plan and text.

Green lifeline from Prohlis to the Elbe
According to the current "Momentum BUGA 2033", two green lifelines are to be developed in Dresden as part of the planned Federal Garden Show. One of these, the green lifeline from Prohlis to the Elbe, is to be planned and designed in greater depth in the master's thesis. The focus is not on the two planned core areas of the racecourse and the gravel lakes, but rather on their integration into the overarching green corridor.
The project addresses the following main questions:
- Where along, for example, could a new cycle and footpath link run between Prohlis and the Kiesseen lakes?
- Where are the gaps in the green network along the Geberbach stream?
- How can the public space in Prohlis be upgraded, taking into account the special development needs of the district?
- And how can one get from one core area to another during the BUGA?
The result will be a utilization and design concept.
