Site visit to a timber-concrete hybrid building in Dresden

On 27 October 2025, the Chair of Timber Engineering at TU Dresden visited a construction site on Fabrikstraße in Dresden together with students. The excursion was organised in cooperation with Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner, the structural checking engineer and RKA Architekten.

At the beginning, the participants received an introduction to the history of the site as well as the planning and construction of the building. The main focus was its hybrid structural system, consisting largely of prefabricated timber and reinforced-concrete elements.

During the subsequent site tour, the students were able to examine the load-bearing structure and various construction details directly on site. Technical discussions addressed the selected structural concepts and the challenges associated with planning, prefabrication and assembly.
