Studying at the Chair of Timber Engineering
The curriculum at the Chair of Structural Engineering in Timber provides students with the scientific and structural foundations for the safe, sustainable, and resource-efficient use of wood as a building material. Through the close integration of theory and practice- in lectures, exercises, laboratory experiments, field trips, and current research findings- students gain a thorough understanding of modern timber structures. In addition to the classical fundamentals of timber engineering, the curriculum focuses on current topics such as high-performance connection technologies, timber bridge construction, composite structures, and the preservation and repair of timber structures. The goal is to enable students to independently analyze complex engineering problems and develop forward-looking solutions for sustainable timber construction in practice.
In addition to the fundamentals of timber engineering, knowledge in the fields of polymer construction, design methodology, and building ecology is also included.

Lectures offered
The Chair of Timber Engineering offers lectures and tutorials on basics of timber engineering, constructing with composites, building ecology and design for the diploma courses in civil engineering, process engineering and forestry as well as in the master course ACCESS. Topics for a project works or a final thesis are offered continuously based on current research topics.
