11th European Conference on Steel and Composite Structures, Cracow

The 11th European Conference on Steel and Composite Structures (EUROSTEEL 2026) took place in Kraków, Poland, from September 16 to 18, 2026. The international conference provides researchers with a platform for professional exchange and discussion of current research and development topics in steel and composite structures.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Richard Stroetmann and Brian Rust presented the latest research findings from the Chair of Steel Construction in three presentations. The presentations addressed the topics “Investigations on residual stresses and buckling resistance of welded HSS box columns,” “Strengthening of old mild steel structures with welded-on fine-grained structural steels,” and “A modified constraint-based resistance model for HAZ failure in welded HSS T-joints.” This presentation covered a broad spectrum of the Chair’s current research, ranging from the load-bearing capacity and stability of high-strength steel components to the reinforcement of existing steel structures and the influence of the heat-affected zone on welded high-strength joints.

Prof. Stroetmann was also a member of the Scientific Committee for EUROSTEEL 2026 and participated in the peer review of submitted papers in the lead-up to the conference. During the conference, he chaired the session “Stability of Cross-Sections, Members, and Frames” and moderated the related presentations and discussions.

EUROSTEEL 2026 thus provided an excellent opportunity to present current research findings to an international audience of experts, gain new inspiration for his own research, and further deepen scientific exchange with colleagues from Germany and abroad.
