Working Meeting Eurocode 3 Part 12
Meeting der Arbeitsgruppe CEN/TC250/SC3/WG12 am 22.01.2026 an der TU Dresden
The second generation of the Eurocodes for the design and construction of steel structures is in its final phase. Parts 1-1 to 1-3, 1-5, as well as 1-8 and 1-9 of EN 1993 have already been published as DIN-EN-standards. Work on the new version of EN 1993-1-12 is still ongoing. This part defines additional rules for the use of high strength steels above grade S700 and up to S960.
The associated working group CEN/TC250/SC3/WG12 for the second edition of EN 1993-1-12 met on January 22, 2026, in Dresden, with some participants joining online. The meeting focused on presentations about current research projects on the load-bearing and deformation behavior of welded hollow section joints made from high strength steels. In addition, detailed insights were provided into investigations on the buckling resistance of welded high strength box columns and the residual stresses caused by the welding process. Another key topic was the strength reduction in the heat affected zone of high strength steels and its adverse effect on the load-bearing capacity of welded joints. This research on high strength steels conducted in Germany makes a significant contribution to the further development of the design rules in Eurocode 3, particularly in Parts 1-1, 1-8, 1-10, and 1-12.
The Institute of Steel and Timber Construction at TUD Dresden University of Technology extends its sincere thanks to all participants for the success of the working meeting.
