9th Saxon consultation on beaver management in Chemnitz
On 26.02.2026, representatives from the BIBOB project attended the 9th Statewide Consultation on Beaver Management in the city of Chemnitz, Saxony. The forum brought together authorities, researchers, and practitioners to exchange knowledge and coordinate beaver management practices across the region.
The program featured expert contributions on topics highly relevant to the BIBOB project, including the ecological impacts of beaver dams on fish and their migration, the contradiction between beavers and protected species such as the freshwater pearl mussel, and the development of the updated management framework "Sächsisches Bibermanagement 2.0". The presentations were followed by a lively and highly engaged discussion.
The meeting provided valuable insights and direct points of contact with regional and national experts working on questions that are fundamental to the BIBOB project. The exchange strengthens the project's scientific foundation and supports the development of evidence-based recommendations for cross-border beaver dam management in the Saxon-Czech border region.
