BIBOB engages visitors at the Dresden Long Night of Science
BIBOB project takes part in this year's Dresden Long Night of Science, welcoming visitors of all ages to explore how nature-based solutions can help us adapt to climate change.
A highlight of the exhibition was an interactive physical model where participants could build their own Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs), human-made structures inspired by natural beaver dams. Using wooden sticks and natural materials, visitors experimented with building dams in a flowing channel and observed how the water responded: pooling behind the structure, slowing its flow, spreading across the floodplain, and reshaping the banks through sediment deposition.
The interactive model attracted many curious visitors, from children enthusiastically constructing dams to adults discussing the ecological and hydrological benefits of nature-based water management. The activity opened up conversations about how simple, nature-inspired interventions can improve water retention, restore ecosystems, and support biodiversity.
