BIBOB Project at the 49th Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium
The BIBOB project was presented at the 49th Dresden Hydraulic Engineering Colloquium, held on 12th and 13th March 2026 at the Maritim International Congress Center in Dresden.
Organised by the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Technical Hydromechanics at TU Dresden, the colloquium brought together researchers, engineers, and practitioners under the theme "Wasserbau zwischen Technik und Natur: Multifunktionale Lösungen für die Zukunft".
The BIBOB project contributed a presentation titled "Biberdämme und -seen als 'Natural Solutions' zur Minderung von Klimawandeleffekten", illustrating the potential of beaver activities as a nature-based approach to increasing climate resilience in the Saxon-Czech border region.
The presentation covered the project's current research activities, including hydrological monitoring and hydraulic modeling; monitoring of the beaver population in the Šluknov region (Czech Republic); monitoring of beaver dam development along the Bahre River (Saxony); and analyses of beaver dam storage capacity across Saxony.
In addition to the presentation, the project was represented through a poster exhibition, providing conference participants with an overview of the project's objectives, methodology, and preliminary results.
The colloquium offered an excellent platform to bring the BIBOB project's findings to a wide audience and to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue on the role of natural processes in addressing climate-driven water challenges.
