The BIBOB project gave a presentation at the beaver-themed evening in Bad Schandau
To mark International Beaver Day on 7 April 2026 and the special exhibition “The Elbe Beaver – Rebel of Biodiversity”, Sachsenforst hosted a beaver-themed evening at the Saxon Switzerland National Park Centre. Marc Schwöbel from the BIBOB project team presented the latest research findings to the interested guests, followed by a lively discussion. The focus was on hydraulic and hydrological field measurements in Saxony and the Czech Republic, as well as beaver dam monitoring at Sebnitz and Bahre. In addition, results of numerical simulations for a beaver wetland at Liščí potok and data from beaver monitoring in the Šluknov region were presented. The evening was rounded off with a further presentation by Jan-Christian Gibson, who provided practical insights into beaver populations and activities in the national park region – specifically at Kirnitzsch, Polenz and Sebnitz. The aim of the event was to highlight the key role of beavers in mitigating climate-related risks.
