"How do we deal with (life) risks?": Closing event of the discussion series "60 minutes: Corona, economy and finance" on July 1st, 2021
The public online discussion series "60 minutes: Corona, Economy and Finance" started by the Faculty of Business and Economics in December 2020 will conclude on Tuesday, July 1st, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a top-class online discussion on the topic of " How do we deal with (life) risks?”.
Prof. Dr. Gerd Gigerenzer (Director emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Director of the Harding Center for Risk Literacy at the University of Potsdam), Prof. Dr. Jonas Grethlein (Professor of Classical Philology, University of Heidelberg) and Prof. Dr. Michael Hüther (Director of the Institute for the German Economy) discuss the issues of risk and decision-making from an interdisciplinary perspective, with a focus on the future: How can we enable people to correctly assess risks? Which risks do we accept - and which not? How can society and the associated politics deal with risks in the future?
Since the start of the online discussion series at the end of 2020, a total of eight online discussions have taken place, thematically dealing with corona debts, digitization and corona warning apps, the consequences of the crisis for the financial markets, the corporate and working world, the ( Universities or the health industry. “The short, compact format of a maximum of 60 minutes and the interdisciplinary composition of the panels were particularly well received by our audience. So we always had external speakers from practice or from a research institute with us and were able to involve colleagues from other faculties of the TU Dresden, e.g. from medicine, psychology, educational sciences and transport sciences" says organizer Marcel Thum, TUD professor for economics, especially public finance, and head of the Dresden branch of the Leibniz Ifo Institute for Economic Research.
Like the previous events, the online discussion on July 1st, 2021 is aimed at members and students of the TU Dresden at the general public and will be carried out virtually via Zoom. Prior registration is not necessary. Further information on the series of events and the event on July 1st, 2021 is available at https://tu-dresden.de/wiwi/coronavortragsreihe.
