Dr. Andreas Leibing receives dissertation award of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany
Dr. Andreas Leibing, a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Quantitative Methods, particularly in Econometrics, has been honored with the 2025 “Statistical Science for the Society” award of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) in the dissertations category. The award ceremony took place on November 13, 2025, during a formal event at the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.
The award recognizes his dissertation, entitled “Education, Expectations, and the Economy: Four Essays in Education and Labor Economics,” which he completed in 2024 at Freie Universität Berlin with the distinction of summa cum laude. In his thesis, Dr. Leibing makes extensive use of official data from the Federal Statistical Office to analyze how economic conditions and individual expectations shape educational choices, educational success, and labor market outcomes.
With the “Statistical Science for the Society” prize, Destatis honors outstanding early-career researchers whose work addresses methodological questions with a close link to official statistics or conducts empirical analyses based on official data.
We warmly congratulate Andreas Leibing on this distinguished award and are delighted that his research in education and labor economics has received national recognition.
