1st faculty-wide PhD student event at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences

Technische Universität Dresden, Germany - The Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TU Dresden held its 1st faculty-wide PhD student event on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The event aimed to provide an opportunity for PhD students to get together, connect with each other, and learn about the research being conducted within the three departments of the faculty: Forest, Geo- & Hydro Sciences.
The event kicked off with a welcome by Prof. Dr. Goddert von Oheimb, Vice Dean of Research, and an introduction to the three departments by Prof. Dr. Norbert Weber, Prof. Dr. Alexandra Weitkamp, and Prof. Dr. Peter Krebs, respectively, followed by a coffee break. The highlight of the event was the 'Posterblitz', where PhD students were given one minute and one slide to advertise their research posters. The event also featured a poster session with coffee and a PhD-/PostDoc-Helpdesk.

The best 'Posterblitz' and best poster awards were presented to PhD students Felix Irrgang (photo above, thrid person from left) and Göksu Celik (photo below, second person from left), respectively. The organizers, Prof. Dr. Marieke van der Maaten-Theunissen, Prof. Dr. Matthias Mauder and Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartmann, expressed their happiness with the turnout of more than 50 attendees and plan to have a similar event soon again.

The organizers expressed their gratitude to the participants and to the faculty for their support in organizing the event. They noted that the event would not have been possible without the support of the faculty and the hard work of the PhD students who participated in the 'Posterblitz' and poster session.
The event was a great success in bringing together PhD students from different departments of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences . It provided a platform for researchers to network and learn about the exciting research projects being carried out in different departments. This success has encouraged the organizers to plan similar events in the future, with the goal of promoting collaboration and interdisciplinary research!
