Prof Remmer Sassen appointed member of the Leopoldina working group on research into human-earth system interactions
Prof Dr Remmer Sassen was recently appointed as a member of the working group ‘Exploring and shaping interactions between humans and the Earth system - strategies for transdisciplinary research, teaching and communication’ of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina e.V..
The working group, which operates within the framework of the Leopoldina's political and social counselling, aims to research the complex interactions between human activity and the Earth system. The aim is to develop strategies to effectively translate scientific findings into social and political measures. This is to be achieved through an integrative and interdisciplinary approach that combines both natural science and social science perspectives.
Prof Sassen will be actively involved in the creation of a future report, which will provide a comprehensive analysis of the current state of research and training strategies in Germany. The report will analyse best practice examples at national and international level and make recommendations for an integrative scientific landscape that can respond to the challenges of climate change, resource scarcity and biodiversity loss.
The working group plans to present its findings at a public symposium and contribute to the scientific and political discourse. Prof Sassen and his colleagues will be working intensively on this project over the coming months in order to make a sustainable contribution to overcoming the global environmental crises.
