Lecture series "Current perspectives on the housing issue"
For more than ten years, the subject of “housing” has determined developments and political disputes in large cities. The financialization of living space has far-reaching consequences for the housing markets. It reinforces the simmering conflicts over marginalization, repression and gentrification. The introduction of the rent cap and the public rent decision in Berlin, as well as the nationwide discussions about funding for new residential construction or the rent cap, make it clear that the housing issue - the lack of supply of broad sections of the population with affordable housing - has become a problem again. With the current housing policy debates, however, there is also a growing need for scientific work that helps to understand current transformations, question existing paradigms and develop new perspectives.
The lecture series therefore presents different scientific and practice-relevant perspectives on the housing issue. In this event, students and the interested public will get an overview of relevant conceptual approaches, empirical subjects and methodological approaches to housing market research as well as current housing policy debates and projects.
