Special Prize at the 24th BDB Student Award 2026

The 24th BDB Student Award 2026 honors projects on the theme “Planning and Building with Water.” The submitted projects addressed the challenges and opportunities of construction in the context of climate change, water scarcity, flood protection, and new infrastructure.
From more than 150 submissions from over 60 universities and colleges in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the BDB awarded three prizes, two special prizes, and two honorable mentions, with a total prize fund of 5,200 euros.
We congratulate Enrico Bischoff from TU Dresden on winning the special prize in the field of landscape and urban design for his bachelor’s thesis “Water in the City—An Acoustic Approach” at the Chair of Landscape Architecture!

Excerpt from the jury’s evaluation:
“[…] In the context of the theme ‘Planning and Building with Water,’ the thesis stands out for its unconventional perspective: While water is often treated in design as a risk, a technical challenge, or a scarce resource, this thesis brings its sensory and atmospheric qualities to the forefront. Here, water appears as an acoustic and aesthetic medium that can positively influence the urban soundscape. […]”
