Virtual practical lectureSustainable Public Procurement: From Labels and Life Cycle Costs to Real Impact?
Details
The public sector buys around 500 billion euros a year - from pencils to buses for local public transport. This considerable buying power can be used consciously to reduce environmental pollution, to improve the range of environmentally friendly products and services or to provide targeted support for the market launch of innovative, environmentally friendly products. More recent laws such as the Climate Protection Act or the revised Recycling Management Act also demand that public procurement become more environmentally friendly. But how does environmentally friendly public procurement work, how can labels or instruments such as life cycle costing actually be used in public procurement?

Federal Environment Agency (UBA)
“For people and the environment” is the motto of the Federal Environment Agency - UBA for short - and it sums up what we are there for. As Germany's central environmental authority, we ensure that there is a healthy environment in Germany in which people can live as protected as possible from harmful environmental influences such as pollutants in the air or water. Our range of topics is broad - from waste avoidance and climate protection to the approval of pesticides. (UBA, 2021)
