The chair of Plant and Wood Chemistry as a part of the institute is a member of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences within the Area of Building and Environment. Contents of teaching and research link tradition of Tharandt with modern aspects of using renewable resources.

Equipment and Service

For training and research diverse analytical methods are available at the institute.Preparative operations like pulping, derivatisation and conditioning of products can be carried out in lab and technical school scale. Analytical investigations as well as preparative operations can be offered as service.

The institute has complex collaborations with partners of very different sectors in research projects and contracts. This results in local, national and international networks.

THE INSTITUTE OF PLANT AND WOOD CHEMISTRY

Prof. Steffen Fischer assumed the management of the Institute of Plant and Wood Chemistry in 2006. Chemists, engineers as well as forest scientists are employed at the institute. Thus, training and research can be arranged in an interdisciplinary matter.

The material utilization of renewable raw materials is currently paramount. New bio-based materials of high functionality can be produced by a specific separation and modification of individual ingredients of plants.
